Doodle-a-Day: April 20

April 21, 2013

30 Days of Art Improvement, Day 20: Pick an object in your house/room. Now design a character from it, using the shapes, forms, textures, purpose and colors as inspiration. Also link/post the object you used. Negative points for using a humanoid action figure.

After watching Wall•E again last night, I’ve been thinking about just how good Pixar is at injecting life and emotion into the simplest of shapes. This inspired me to go beyond a humanoid figure and find the character within this weird little reading lamp I have. With a flexible neck and a pair of articulated arms that can be adjusted, I incorporated its elements into a curious surveillance robot.

With all the planning put into this guy, I might just come back to it and turn this into a full-fledged finished piece; for now, it’s past my bedtime, so enjoy the inks for the time being.
