Slenderman spin-offs: Everyman Hybrid

June 29, 2010

While the guys responsible for Marble Hornets are on a brief hiatus before wrapping up their series, another group of amateur filmmakers has started a new project within the Slenderman Mythos. Dubbed “Everyman Hybrid,” it begins with a group of guys producing a series of home fitness videos on YouTube, until things start to get strange.

Actually — highlight the text for more info about EH’s unique angle, with some minor spoilers: The fitness videos are a front for their own Slenderman/Marble Hornets homage, with one of the characters donning the infamous black suit and faceless mask and intentionally hiding within certain shots. But the real Slenderman has been watching, and isn’t taking too kindly to their Bloody Mary-esque attempts to fool around with his power.

It’s certainly an interesting take on the universe. The series starts off slow, not really taking a turn toward the spooky until Episode 6, but they’re short enough that the exposition is worth it. While it lacks the atmosphere and isolated feeling of Marble Hornets, it’s got some great characters. All in all, it’s fun to see the many different interpretations of this fictional being, and how in little more than a year, it’s expanded from an Internet Photoshop concept into a fully rounded folklore construct.

Here’s the first video in the series, and the link to their YouTube page.

TribeTwelve is far better a series.

I personally think that EverymanHYBRID is the best Slenderman series so far. The characters are much more likeable than in Marble Hornets or TribeTwelve, and so I care a lot more about the storyline.
