Fighting the Freshman 15
This month, I got on board with a feature in the Gateway called Fighting the Freshman 15. I and five other Gateway staffers have dedicated the next three months to getting in shape and shedding those dreaded extra pounds that mysteriously seem to appear about a year into a postsecondary education.
The goal of the program isn’t to compete or lose the most weight possible through radical diets and crazy workouts. Instead, we’re all aiming just to get in shape for personal betterment, using the age-old tactics of healthy eating and living an active lifestyle.
We’ve been tracking our progress on a Gateway blog, posting weekly progress updates and talking about challenges and revelations we’ve had since starting. This week, we’ve even garnered the attention of the mainstream media, and this morning, I appeared on CBC Radio One’s Edmonton AM with fellow participants Sarah Stead and Robert Frigon.
You can listen to the interview here, follow along on the blog here, and check out the original feature here. On April 1, we’ll be running a follow-up feature to track how well things went, so keep your eyes open for that as well!
